In theory yes! As you know their necks are much smaller than they appear so just make sure it's not tight. I think too you'd need more material on a larger scrunchie. It's really trial and error to see what works! Good luck let me know

Never give treats or there's a risk your bird will hold their poop and could develop infection. When you see your bird doing the position try and have them nearby where you want them to go and LOTS of praise when they go. If they poop where you don't want them to, say nothing

No, you can serve it raw! I'll lightly steam things like carrots, squash, sweet potatoes (4-5 min) and I cook the quinoa.

I'm really sorry to hear about your love bird plucking :( I know all too well the emotional roller coaster and frustrations trying to find something that works. A love bird is very small compared to Jasper so definitely the scrunchie would be too big. Do you have a needle and thread? Maybe you could buy a regular sized scrunchie, cut it and sew it smaller. Remember their necks are still smaller than what we see (if they're covered in feathers). Feathers add quite a bit of "bulk" so when I put mine on Jasper while it can seem like it's tight, it's not, his neck is much smaller. Just make sure there's a little gap (and for you to take it off) and it will be fine. Monitor for at least 10 min when you put it on. Also Jasper sleeps in his sleep cage so he's not moving around with his scrunchie on. I don't want to take a chance of him potentially catching it on something. If you don't already have a smaller cage I'd consider it if you're wearing the scrunchies at night. Hope that helps :)

Hey! My only experience is with Jasper, but I assume you would just need to chop it more finely for your parakeets. I suggest googling chop specifically for them in case there's any difference in dietary requirements :)

@@KatieFleming Totally! Smaller Tupperware also works. Now I freeze enough for three days portions in my large batches. Three days seems to be the limit for how long they like it, and after that they won’t eat it and I have to unthaw a new container. It’s great to learn from eachother. The bird community can be awesome that way. (And sometimes it’s toxic, but that’s another story 😏)

Ha! No kidding. It was definitely a harder decision to start posting about Jasper's plucking for exactly that reason. But there's a lot of great people here too :) I don't really freeze batches of food like in this video anymore. I started freezing things separately and then making my own mix just to switch it up. I'd say 70% fresh foods, 30% frozen depending what I'm feeding him.

@@KatieFleming Awesome idea. I kinda do the same thing. And I know what you mean about posting about the plucking. I have a rescue plucker and every time I post a pic of him I feel the need to make a big old disclaimer about him being a rescue, that it’s a habit he’s in now, that he’s healthy and we’re doing our best, etc. because people have a lot to say about things they don’t know anything about 😜
